I've been playing around with Google Earth.
I used the ruler to find out we were parked 1.29 miles from the "tourist" viewpoint (Dead Horse Point) up on top. I didn't think it was that far away.

Also, during the last of the climb up and out, we were only something like 40 yards away from the paved road on top. Who knew? HA! On edit: measured with Google Earth, we were only 124 feet away from the public on the pavement up on top!
